Immunity Boosting Drinks

When you are feeling sluggish or if you are full-blown-miserable sick,Citrus Smoothie w/Kiwi & Berries your body needs a boost! I haven’t been sick-sick but I have been a little achy and tired for a couple of days. I am not going to sit & wait for this to get any worse–I am going to pump my body full of vitamins, minerals, anti-oxidants; pretty much a lot of fruits and vegetables plus some raw honey & cinnamon. 🙂

Citrus fruit & kiwis (which are actually a berry) are packed with Citrus Smoothie w/Kiwi & BerriesVitamin C. Kiwis add a tropical touch to any dish; creamy in consistency–tasting somewhere between a berry & a banana. Kiwi fruit has more Vitamin C than oranges (along with brussel sprouts, broccoli, red & green peppers, kale, and pineapple.) Bottom line: Vitamin C is necessary for a healthy immune system! Vitamin C helps prevent and treat a variety of diseases (it’s good stuff–especially when taken as whole foods.)

To help boost my immune system I have been making smoothiesHoney Lemon Water w/ Cinnamon (conveniently with whatever fruit we have an abundance of–does anyone else buy 3 kiwis every time they go shopping?) and hot water mixed with lemon, raw honey, and cinnamon. Both taste great & they help keep me healthy. Honey has anti-bacterial, anti-viral, and anti-microbial properties and cinnamon contains anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, and antioxidant properties. And they taste great together! Honey & cinnamon create a smooth, comforting flavor that pairs well with a little lemon.

CITRUS SMOOTHIE

Blend together:

  1. 3 kiwis (I cut them in half and used a large spoon to scoop out the fruit)
  2. 1 cup frozen mixed berries
  3. 1 cup orange juice
  4. 6 ice cubes

Blend on a medium-high setting for 1-2 minutes until all ingredients incorporate together–and enjoy!!

**This is a very tart recipe. Add a banana or a little sweetener to mellow it out, if necessary**

HONEY LEMON WATER with CINNAMON

To an empty mug, add:

  1. 1-2 Tbsp raw honey
  2. Squeeze of fresh lemon
  3. 1/8 tsp cinnamon
  4. Enough boiling water to fill the mug at least 3/4 full

Mix with a spoon or whisk until the cinnamon is incorporated–and enjoy!
