It is strange facing the first major holiday without my sister. It feels like an alternate reality that I have not adjusted to. I had not thought much about Thanksgiving food until I had quite a few hits on my old Patti LaBelle Cookbook post. It had a few old photos of food that Sara made that I had forgot about. It is rare that I come across “new” old photos.
When I moved my blog, I did a procedure that transferred my old posts & linked the photos back to the old blog site. To my utter frustration, my old blog site (it was free & unreliable) was down & I could not access those photos. So I waited for 5 days. FIVE DAYS for it to come back up, but it did & now I can share a couple happy Thanksgiving memories of Sara’s favorite recipes. These are not healthy ones, but they are delicious! And that cookbook is still wonderful!
The pictures are of recipes from the LaBelle Cuisine–Recipes to Sing About cookbook: Over-The-Rainbow Macaroni & Cheese and Norma’s Black Bottom Sweet Potato Pie. Sara loved elaborate recipes that gave her a chance to express her love for us by creating comfort food. She used her most valuable resource, time, to share her talents and we were lucky to share many delicious meals that she put her heart & soul into.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Enjoy your time with family and friends or enjoy your alone time. Thanksgiving doesn’t have to be turkey & stuffing, so make yourself a giant lasagna or your favorite soup. Just make sure you have fun & appreciate the people around you!
