The MAC Mariah Carey Collection is here! Last year MAC Cosmetics released one lipstick from their collaboration with Mariah Carey. The 2016 MAC Mariah Carey Collection is everything we wished for! Brushes, blushes, highlight, eyeliner, eye shadow, lashes, lip pencils, lip gloss, and lipsticks covered in gorgeous silver & gold packaging make up for the limited release of 2015!
There is a lot of (grown-up) gold & shimmer in the MAC Mariah Carey Collection. The colors are wearable & what I picked up is my dream collection for daily wear & special occasions. My favorite lip combos are beige or pink nudes & the highlighters are phenomenal! I did not splurge on the eyeliner, lashes, brushes or blushes. I did grab a wonderful sample of my favorite makeup collection of all time:
THE MAC MARIAH CAREY COLLECTION
PRO LONGWEAR LIP PENCIL in So Dramatique $22 USD
So Dramatique is a long-wearing deep earthy brown shade. It is the longest lasting lip liner I own. It is a darker shade but is not too dark to use with the lighter lipsticks from the neutral-themed lipstick collection.
LIPSTICK in All I Want (Frost) & MC Izzle (Cremesheen) $20
I picked up two of the All I Want lipsticks last year & I decided against repurchasing just for the packaging. All I Want has been the perfect replacement for my Chanel (discontinued) gold lipstick that I use to top my lips off. All I Want is a neutral, champagne frost that has solid pigmentation. It is a lighter color and can also be used on top of deeper shades for a gorgeous contrast.
MC Izzle is a creamy, pigmented blush toned peach with high shine. It is not as pigmented as a matte lipstick because of the creamy, glossy finish. MC Izzle is perfect for daily wear or pairing with a dramatic eye look!
LIPGLASS in Butterfly Bling (Online Only) & It’s Just Like Honey $18.50
This is my first time trying MAC Lipglass. It has exceeded my expectations: remarkably high shine, sophisticated shimmer (not large chunks of glitter,) and a nice texture that isn’t too sticky. The Mariah Carey Collection lipglosses all contain smooth shimmer & are light on pigmentation. They work best to highlight & top of the lips.
Butterfly Bling (pictured left) is a pink-bronze shimmer vs. the tan/beige shimmer (pictured right) of the It’s Just Like Honey gloss. They are both great on staying power for a delicately pigmented gloss! The smooth application & long-lasting wear have really impressed me! Most lip glosses are gone before I arrive at my destination.
EYE SHADOW X 4 in I’m That Chick You Like $33
The I’m That Chick You Like quad is perfect. It is the “basics” palette I want with me at all times! It is perfect for my medium complexion and yellow-undertones with its warm, neutral shades! The shadows are opaque, apply and blend well and are long-lasting.
- Whenever You Call – light, warm gold (Veluxe Pearl). This is a beautiful shade that is light enough to use as a brow highlight on my medium complexion.
- Can’t Escape Me – medium gold chocolate-brown (Satin).
- Golden Petals Scattering – medium-dark cool brown shimmer (Frost).
- How You Thrill Me – neutral-rich dark brown (Satin) that leans more on the matte side. It has the deep pigmentation of a matte shadow without being flat & is easy to blend. I love using it to set dark brown eyeliner.
LOOSE POWDER in Touch My Body $39.50
Touch My Body is an ultra-fine, silky bronze-gold powder with copper sparkle. It has a medium-dark pigmentation and is very sparkly. The powder can be worn on the face or the body. Use the pouf for a sheer application or apply with a brush for a darker, more pigmented color. A little bit goes a long way!
I could not resist and I pressed some of the powder with 4 drops of TKB My Mix Clear Pressing Medium & 99% Alcohol. I highly suggest this if you were unable to get your hands on the My Mimi Extra Dimension Skinfinish! After swatching the pressed loose powder next to the My Mimi Extra Dimension Skinfinish I can say that the loose powder has more of a gold finish & the My Mimi leans towards copper.
EXTRA DIMENSION SKINFINISH in My Mimi $45.50
My Mimi is a medium, warm copper with a gold shimmer finish. My Mimi has a smooth metallic sheen that is intertwined with intense copper sparkle. I use a light hand when I apply it but I love it! This is a drier application than Becca Pressed Shimmering Skin Perfector in Champagne Pop or The Balm Mary-Lou Manizer. My Mimi will apply more on the sheer side with a brush & fully metallic when a finger application is used.
MAC, Macy’s, Nordstrom, and Saks Fifth Avenue still have limited quantities of this collection. This season I passed on new Urban Decay palettes, I avoided the lovely Sweet Peach Collection, & I stayed away from The Modern Renaissance Palette & Glow Kits, Huda Beauty Rose Gold Palette, Juvia’s Place Palettes, Makeup Geek Highlighters, new Fyrinnae products and many more to keep my eye on the prize. All I wanted was the MAC Mariah Carey Collection this year! No matter what your level of appreciation for makeup is, you have to give it up for this packaging! The gorgeous, well-made packaging is as equally impressive as the beautiful products! I am new to trying MAC & my real reaction was a mixture of wonderment at the high quality of every product and that feeling of “oh no, I love this… what else do they make…”
December has been a great month! Family & friends are in good health, the temps rose out of the below zero range, the sun has been shining, and we saw Rogue One in the theater for $5. Who knew small towns run Monday night specials at the movie theater?
