Spring 2014 Favorites

Boy is it cold outside. 🙂 But pretty soon we will see green grass & buds on the trees. I have tried to keep busy with various knitting and craft projects, a lot of time has been spent trying out different home cleaning recipes (post coming soon!) and lots of cooking & baking. We haven’t left the house very much this winter; but I still managed to find some new items that make my life easier, better, and make me smile.

  • On one of my sister’s recent visits she brought along a gift from my cousin Ashley. I love this necklace! It is well made but delicate. My family’s support of my sister’s cancer journey means everything to me.
  • Dariya Japan Magic Grip (Hair) Velcro ($2-3 for six on amazon.) dariya hair velcroThese are the best! They keep your hair out of your face while you do your makeup & they don’t leave any visible crimps or marks. They come in fun colors and they work!

  • Cascadian Farm Organic Graham Crunch cereal. I never ate any grahamCascade Farms Graham Crunch flavored cereal as a child but this stuff tastes SO good. It has decent ingredients, tastes buttery and sweet, and doesn’t send me off the deep end with only 8 grams of sugar per 3/4 cup serving. ($4-5 *I got it Buy 1 Get 1 Free at Roundy’s*)

  • Gelly Roll pens are not new to me. I just love writing with them. I love the packaging, Gelly Roll Pensthe colors, the way they write, and the look of the colorful dried ink. They are just fun. I picked mine up from Michael’s with a gift card.

  • My two recent hair care favorites have been dry shampoo & volumizingBatiste Dry Shampoo spray. My hair is going through a rather thin phase and I need all of the help I can get to disguise my ever-showing crown. If I don’t make an effort to plump up my hair, a lot of skin shows. My favorite dry shampoo is the original Batiste. There is a small white cast but it gives me tons of volume & I like the smell. I tried the brunette one & I do not like the “chocolate” scent. My other new thinning hair care friend has been from Sally Beauty–the So Gorgeous Volumizing Spritz. (Both run around $8) The So Gorgeous line is a generic version of the Big Sexy Hair line. The Spritz I have been loving gives me generous volume and smells great. It is not the most volumizing product I’ve used, but for the pleasant smell & price it is getting a lot of use!
  • LIP PRODUCTS!!!! I love lip products. I love all types of makeup Lipstickproducts but the new lip balm, butter, tint trend is great! I love soft lips, sweet vanilla scents, and everything about the lip-butter craze. I have tried out five new lip products that all have impressed me recently:
  1. NYX Butter Lipstick in “Sugar Wafer”  ($5.99 at Ulta): This guy has a lot of pigmentation for a butter-product! It is creamy & applies smoothly.
  2. Jordana Twist & Shine Moisturizing Balm Stain in “Honey Love” ($2.99 at Walgreens): This formula is soft, smooth, and imparts sheer color. TheLipstick color is a mauve/nude pink that isn’t so nude that you look like you are wearing concealer on your lips. (I love that look too) It has a nice sweet  scent and a beautiful glossy finish.
  3. Essence Lipstick in “Miss Peach” ($2.99 at Ulta): this lipstick is slightly sheer, buildable, and has a lot of shimmer (not all of their lipsticks are shimmery.) It is a subtle pink/melon color. It has a wonderful sweet smell and imparts more color than many balms/butters.
  4.  Maybelline The Buffs Collection Lipstick in “Truffle Tease” ($5.99 at Wal-Mart): I waited MONTHS for these lipsticks to come out in January & they did not hit my local shelves for several weeks after they were released. I am a nude lip junkie & I wanted to have the entire collection but I chose two. This is the lighter of the two colors I have. It is nearly identical to my HG L’Oreal lipstick in Fairest Nude. It has a creamy application that is more solid than a lip butter. The light/mid toned beige color is opaque with great pigmentation. It has a slightly glossy finish that I love!
  5. Maybelline The Buffs Collection Lipstick in “Touchable Taupe” ($5.99 at Wal-Mart): After trying Truffle Tease I loved it so much I decided to (gulp) go a few shades darker… Nude is my comfort zone but this shade is soMaybelline The Buffs complementary to my warm complexion. It is a soft pinky-brown color that isn’t too dark; but adds depth to my look.
