Summer Favorites 2015

School is starting, the temps are still in the 80’s, and I never want summer to end. I plan on soaking up as much sun as possible for the next week, reading some long neglected books, and listening to a ton of happy music! My focus & concentration are shot for the time being, but I can always find things to like! Here are some of my summer favorites:

Schwarzkopf Professional Igora Royal High Power Browns (Around $10 on Amazon:)

After watching a video from Guy Tang on babylights on dark hair, I had to pick up the shade Schwarzkopf Igora Power BrownsB2 (brown ash.) I have never used high lift browns before. I was nervous that it would pull a red/brassy tone but it turned out the most beautiful ashy dark blonde!!! I used Olaplex with the highlights so I bumped up my developer to a 40 volume. I placed babylights around the face with foils. I started at the root area with a 20 volume developer (the Olaplex dilutes it down to a 10 volume) and melted that into the 40 volume mixture (diluted down to a 30 volume.) I painted on a subtle balayage throughout the rest of the hair without foils–which gives less of a lightened effect without the heat of the foils. I am amazed that the foils lifted 3-4 shades and actually turned out an ashy tone. I am so impressed with this color! The Power Browns line has 8 shades that vary in different warm and cool tones. It would be perfect for a natural looking ombre on dark hair!

Becca Cosmetics Pressed Shimmering Skin Perfector in “Champagne Pop:”

For those of us who can appreciate a beautiful highlight–this stuff is like a slightly toned down version Becca Champagne Pop Swatchof The Balm’s honey/light gold hued  “Mary-Lou Manizer” except it has a kiss of rose gold!!! The compact is $38. So, you can spend $10-15 on several bargain, powdery highlighters or you can get what you’ve been looking for in one go. This is my first Becca purchase, they are cruelty free and I love this highlighter!!! The highlighters are similar in effect, application, and beyond color–the main difference I have found is that the Mary-Lou Manizer has a slightly softer texture to it. This does not affect the application or fantastic staying power of the Becca highlighter, but it is a little more firm in texture. You can use a light hand or apply a lot with these highlighters–for a wet, luminous look. The Becca highlighter has .28 oz. of product and the Mary-Lou Manizer has .30 oz. The Balm’s Mary-Lou Manizer retails for $24.00.

Catrice Cosmetics Waterproof Ultimate Lash Multimizer Volume Mascara ($7.99 exclusively at Ulta:)

For those of you who have had negative experiences with waterproof catrice mascara mascaras, do NOT let that scare you off of this one!!! It is not dry or flaky and it lets my lashes keep their curl. It is a dark black color & it removes easily with my normal routine. I can not remember the last time just one coat of mascara made me so happy! It is worth noting that while I was reading reviews of the various Catrice mascaras, this one seemed to be the stand out, if not stand alone quality mascara from the brand. (PS–watch for sales, I got mine during a B1G1 50% off sale!)

Powerade Zero Drops (around $4 at the grocery store:)

I have the red & the blue one (fruit punch and mountain berry blast.) It is a sugar-free liquid you add to water. I probably use less than whatever their recommended serving size is. I am on my second fruit punch bottle & I would love to find the orange flavor. It tastes like Powerade Zero–which has no calories but also has a less palatable flavor than full calorie sports drinks. I will warn you to be Powerade Zero Dropscareful with the drops–they have concentrated flavor & color! 🙂 I know this is not a health food but it does not have a bad chemical aftertaste and I drink more water with these in the house.

I know this is a short list but I am just beginning to catch my breath again. Summer was a blur but I am going to enjoy every last ray of sunshine, warm night, and sleeping without 3 quilts! Pumpkin everything is on its way, but I won’t pretend that I am bothered. If we could just get pumpkin spice scented & flavored everything during the summer months… then life would be darn close to perfect! 🙂

P.S.—we have a new neighbor, who just happens to be a puppy!!! It is hard to have a bad day when this little girl comes around!!!
