I’ve been interested in craft creme for awhile now–I am pretty sure that I could concoct something decent based on the silicone molds I have made. I picked up the Whipple Lovely Macaroon Set for a commercial comparison and to have some fun! Craft creme looks like fluffy frosting and is an adorable way to decorate phone cases, trinket boxes, barrettes, and picture frames.
For $15.99 (Prime 2 Day Shipping) on Amazon, the Epoch Whipple Lovely Macaroon Set came with instructions, 8 mini macaron sets, a bag of craft creme (non-edible) with a decorator tip, 3 key chains, 2 small bags of beads & pearls, gift tags, and a Macaron Box that wasn’t too difficult to fold. This project might be frustrating for small children but with some supervision it would be a great activity for all ages!
The instructions are not in English but there are plenty of instructional photos for guidance. First I assembled the decorative box. I then separated the macaron sets and beads. I also made a favorite craft tool to pick up the tiny decorations: Orthodontic Wax balled up and stuck on the end of a toothpick.
My biggest focus on this project was learning about the creme. You can use the kit with just the provided materials but I chose to use the creme on several projects. Creme can be applied in different patterns. Apply a solid ring, place drops, or pipe it in tear drop designs. The creme does not have to be perfect–you can cover any imperfections with the included gems & pearls!
I was careful to cover my work surface. You could wear plastic gloves for the creme application but it washes off easily with soap and water. I applied the creme & decorations and let the creme dry for a day before handling. The creme dries to a firm texture.

Fold the Macaron Box
*Be sure to leave “frosting” off of the tops of the Macarons you want to display in this box*
I had little trouble folding the box with the pictures in the instructions. The pink top did not want to stay folded so I taped the two inside pieces with washi tape.
Open & Separate the Macarons and Beads
It is easier to keep track of the small gems & pearls if you remove them from their bags & place them on a small plate/bowl.
Decorate with Creme
Push the creme to the front of the bag (I used the flat side of a ruler.) Remove the cap to the bag of creme and twist on the decorative tip. Pipe the creme onto the inside of one macaron half and place the other half on top. You can also place creme on the top of the macarons. Gently place the gems & beads on the outside edge of the frosting and on the tops. I decorated my macarons one at a time so that the creme would not get too firm before I placed the beads.
I left out a napkin to place the bag of creme in between applications. Instead of constantly replacing the cap, I was able to set down the bag of creme without making a mess. When applying the creme, grip the bag in the middle (above the creme) and gently push out. I twisted the bag right above the creme. As I got to the end of my bag, I capped the bag and used my ruler to scrape the product towards the tip.
I used the toothpicks with balled up wax to pick up and place the small beads. It made the project really fun & easy. When I tried to place the beads with my fingers, it was a little messy and I disrupted the pattern of the “creme.” I also utilized Mounting Putty to decorate. I placed a ball of putty on a small plate and (gently) attached the macaron half that I was decorating.
I find it helpful to have everything opened & my designs thought out before applying the creme. Once the creme starts to set it gets harder to get the decorations to stick to it. I gave the Macarons one day to dry before handling. The “creme” dries down to a hard texture and is not squishy at all. Dry the Macarons out of direct sunlight. Amazon reviews suggest that with some whipple sets, the “creme” can dry out and crumble if left in sunlight.
I purposely left some whipple creme to experiment on other surfaces. I successfully decorated a picture frame, plastic containers, and adjustable rings.
The Epoch Whipple Lovely Macaroon Set is super cute and has everything you need. The tiny gems and pearls are perfect accents for the charming mini macaroons! I love the pretty box that is included. It is a gorgeous way to display your creations. I am completely amused by the craft creme and would love to create my own. The Epoch set does not have any strong odor & I know that mixing silicone and corn starch to make my own will have a strong smell. A pre-assembled craft creme kit is a great way to dabble in this popular craze with minimal mess & no strong chemical smells!
